I am a firm believer in progressive, developmentally appropriate education for children. I received my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City, which is one of the preeminent progressive education institutions in the country. My passion is to share the knowledge and experience I have acquired with families, and to apply the Bank Street Approach (aka The Developmental Interaction Approach) to teaching young children.
I am originally from Putnam County, NY. I then moved to Eagle Rock, CA and received my BA in Theater from Occidental College. After deciding the film industry wasn’t for me, I moved back to New York. I lived and worked in New York City in an office environment at an architectural lighting design company. I received a cosmic opportunity to go back to school during the recession and I felt as if I could become anything I wanted.
I decided that the best use of all my skills and experience would be as an educator. I ultimately received my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education. I have taught in a wide variety of classrooms, from independent Pre-K to public 5th Grade all over New York City. Some of my students’ parents asked me to work with their children during the summers or after-school. It was during this time that I found that I can attain incredible academic leaps by giving children 1-on-1 attention and I began my tutoring business at this time. When I moved back to LA with my husband I continued my private teaching practice. I also began consulting with private preschools on their curriculum. When I became a mother, I decided it was time to apply my pedagogy to parenting and very young children and that is how Romp and Rollick was born!
I believe in:
Developmentally Appropriate Education
Education as a Tool for Social Justice
