Progressive Education – Developmentally Appropriate Education – Education as a Tool for Social Justice – Constructivism – Process Art
Meryl Opsal, M. Ed.
Director and Lead Instructor
Meryl received her undergraduate degree in Theater from Occidental College and began her adult life as an actress. She then moved back to NYC (she is originally from NY) and worked as a project manager at an architectural lighting design firm. She realized that she could combine all of her skills, experience, and passions together as an educator. She received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education in 2013.
She taught in a wide variety of settings, from independent Pre-K to public 5th Grade. She then transitioned into working with families in their homes providing support for both parent and child; to identify academic and behavioral challenges and to create a plan towards resolution. She has also worked as a curriculum consultant, developing and instructing preschool teachers in profession development workshops.
When she became a mother, she wanted to attend a parent and me class with her son, and couldn’t find one she loved. She decided it was time to apply her pedagogy to young children and their parents, and make her own class, and that is how Romp and Rollick was born! Her goal is to offer a whole suite of classes to appeal to every age, stage and interest. This goal is a work in progress and we appreciate your support!
Alice Custance Baker
Alice is the kind of person who is amazing at whatever she does. She is the mom to two boys, and used to work in Geological Preservation. She was looking for something different, and she found it here at Romp & Rollick where she takes care of all of the behind the scenes operations as well as assisting Meryl during class. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
